Enjoy this Barenaked Ladies’ song, “The Elf’s Lament.” The song details the hardships of being an elf, and reminds us all to remember the less fortunate this holiday season. My favorite lyric: “Toiling through the ages, making toys on garnished wages / There’s no union / We’re only through when we outdo the competition.”
Merry Christmas!
Welcome to the real world that former President Bill Clinton told us about in the 1990′s: the new economy. The song represent “the bridge to the 21st century” and all of the union job losses that went with it. The US is now a country where lifetime education is a necessity. However, the classroom will never be a substitute for the workplace. If anything best describe the pitfalls of globalization it is this song. Maybe the title of the song should be renamed: “Sweet Home Detroit.”
